The document below was written in 2014, as the events it describes took place. Now, ten years on, having re-read it, I was initially thinking of sparing you each and every blow-by-blow account due to its length. As a precautionary measure, given the history, challenges, and threats I've endured, this site and I may come under further attacks from individuals intent on silencing professional pilots such as myself.
With that in mind, I've been advised to publish every word as there is a small probability that this site will receive in-depth analysis from authorities and lawyers.
It's not so bad news, though; now equipped with Grammarly editing, this document is far more presentable than it was in the past. Readers are no longer subjected to my dyslexia or voice recognition program's misrecognised words, hopefully ensuring that all mystique!! are attended to.
Before you read events; I should tell you that the very day after I left my friends house AUG 2014 the local police arrived looking for me, thats what the SBS deposited $3000 buys in Nepal.
I would recommend that before even attempting to digest what’s written below, readers should understand that after my Kathmandu flat was surrounded by masked men in November 2010 (just weeks after the fatal Serengeti balloon accident, fortunately I was away at the time,) up until most recently it was not certainly not safe for me to return to Kathmandu for the last 3 1read/2 years, I believe that even to this day that threats remain in existence. Having amassed over the past 30 years a great deal of time in this area, be it as a pilot or trip leader, certainly provided me with the resourcefulness to re-enter legally yet in what some might somewhat covertly. With precautions taken, I was never challenged.
So you're new to all this.
Those of you familiar with this long-lasting episode shall be aware that in an effort to silence me, in order to prevent the truth from coming out, SBS/Tony Pascoe had earlier deposited no less than $3000 with a local, apparently with the instructions to hunt me down, insisting that thereafter, that I be severely punished. Interestingly, the person in receipt of these funds is a local lawyer, one reportedly related to the then chief of police. Putting that into perspective, at the time these funds were deposited, this would equate of the average five years salary paid to locals, caution was called for.
keeping a low profile
During this extended stay, spanning June through to August 2014, I maintained a low profile in that I mainly remained within the confines of my alternative accommodation. I ventured further afield than the perimeter fence on no more than a dozen occasions. Even then, one had to remain streetwise. Speaking from five & half years experience of being the messenger, the threatened whistle-blower, very much puts oneself in one’s own jail. Take for example such things as not been able to work or even move around freely, such privileges are instantly denied, quietly literally whistleblowers are left to beg or starve.
local Mafia
During this time, I had the opportunity to meet trusted witnesses, enabling me to gain a greater insight into what actually took place in November 2010 (masked men). According to reports, the local dada (dada = Mafia-type organisation, hired thugs) were involved, as were the local police. Some of those individuals present at the time of the raid, therefore witnessed events refused to give details for fear of reprisals, however at the same time recommending that I don’t unsettle matters after such a long time.
It was further brought to my attention that four individuals believed to be members of the local Mafia remained concealed within a corner store, one which I was known to frequent. Apparently, these thug-like individuals spent several days lying in wait of my possible arrival. Other neighbours had been ordered to alert those looking for me should I have returned. All this gives a clear indication that there was a bounty to be had.
Before bidding farewell to my hosts, one such witness, one rather naive member of that particular gathering, was genuinely excited owing to all of us being finally reunited after so long attempting to gather all before a family camera. At that point, even myself caught up in the excitement of it all, I had momentarily dropped my guard. Fortunately, the far wiser head of the family stepped forward immediately, halting proceedings. He rightly went on to explain that it could be highly dangerous to all concerned if they were later found to possess a photograph that included me alongside them. Unfortunately this produced a quick reminder of the dangerous situation, instantly transformed prevailing jubilation, as it brought about faces paled by shocked as reality of the situation struck home.
During my stay in Nepal, I was also cautious of others wanting to make similar Facebook entries, however remaining conscious of contract fees paid in order to procure silence at any price, even to this day, it remains imperative that I prevent any timely notification of my whereabouts whilst remaining in that particular vicinity. It's only now that I'm safely out of that region that is deemed safe to bring all this to your attention.
Coming back to the here and now, earlier this year, after taking the necessary step of contacting 10 Downing Street, I was soon pointed in the direction of the Ministry of Justice office.
Ministry of Justice
On 12 May 2014, during initial contact with The Ministry for Justice Simon Hughes MP, I had already voluntarily offered to clarify my identification at the nearby British Embassy; however, after taking the initiative in supplying my passport along with my UK driving license details, this was deemed unnecessary by the ministries office manager Mrs Able. Presumably this high office were entirely satisfied with whom they were dealing with.
Ministry of Justice stonewalling
Communications with the above office continued for some time, subsequently they are now in possession of a wealth of information. After my requests for updates failed to be recognised, I telephoned office manager Ms Able, who seemed somewhat surprised that the Ministry of Justice legal team had not contacted me. The call came to an end after she gave assurances that she would look into the matter. With a degree of sadness, yes even despair, experiencing repetitive inattentiveness from various authorities, despite many weeks having passed by, I have no alternative but to report that I have heard absolutely nothing more from that office. For these reasons I question whether this could be just another case of been stonewalled, if so I question where is the credibility.
Avon and Somerset Constabulary visit to York
On 5 June 2014 friends whom I had earlier stayed with in York, ( during December, 2012 through to May 2013, made contacted, informing me that on 4 June they had been visited by two female plainclothes officers going by the names of Cathcart & Francis. Apparently, these offices had deemed it necessary to travel from Bristol to seek information on myself. According to the information supplied, they advised my friend to pass on information that I should contact the nearest Embassy to identify myself. Upon reading this, you may understand that I thought we were at last singing from the same song sheet.
From the very onset, I had held the view that should the UK authorities have any doubts surrounding my true identity, approaching the British Embassy in this way seemed highly reasonable. With this recent request, we are finally starting to make some headway.
please see the email alerting me of this police visit:-

The police officers who came were from Somerset and Avon police, and they showed their IDs. They were Lindsay Francis (ID 4413) and Jeannie Cathcart (3457)
They came around 7:20 p.m. and stayed for about 30 minutes. They requested to come in, so I invited them in. They were friendly and calm when asking questions, not at all agitated or aggressive.
All they wanted was your address and phone number, which I said I didn't have. They insisted they needed your address, but I kept saying I wouldn't do that as if it were leaked, you could be at great risk from your previous employers.
They asked how I communicated with you, to which I replied 'email'. Apologies, I did give them this email address as the one I use to communicate with you; I hope that is ok with you.
Edited 26th of August 2014, I subsequently wrote back to my informant, stating that I had no problem with emails addresses been passed on to the UK police authority. Indeed the UK police force already have email addresses for me. the very means for the police force contacting me could not be any simpler. hence communicating with me should never be a problem. proof held on record. let’s get back to what my friend had to tell me, pay particular attention to detail of requests:-
They did suggest you go to the embassy to confirm your identity, but I don't think this is the best thing for your personal safety. They also suggested you come back to the UK to face them in court.
I mentioned your relationship with Donna. They can't confirm her identity as they haven't met her, but they do have an email address for her. They did ask about your family and what connections I had with them.
End of quote.
Presenting myself to the British Embassy
On the following day, 6 June 2014, with nothing to hide, having done no wrong, you would understand that I was eager to comply. I followed through with the police officers request, everything sounded quite simple, unquestionably logical. What may surprise many, not wanting to unnecessarily burden the locally employed Vice Council with the whole story, besides there wasn't enough office hours in the day to do so, therefore I simply explained that the UK police force had requested that I present myself to UK Embassy in order to clarify my identity. As far as I was concerned, it clearly doesn’t get any more simple than just that.
British Embassy can't communicate with UK police.
Unfortunately it quickly materialised that as far as the British Embassy was concerned, this is not a simple request as one might think. Given that this extremely charming lady was a local employee, I was beginning to wonder if we had some sort of language problem, so in my best Nepalese that might contain hints of a Yorkshire twang, I ventured forth in the best way possible to repeat my request. With my curiosity cured, politely assured that she certainly understood all that been place before her I must concede to feeling rather spellbound for the first time in my life, momentarily lost for words.
Her Majesty Queen comes to the rescue of the pilot
Then I questioned myself if I was actually in the right Embassy. Fortunately, just as confusion started to take root, with enormous relief, the site of the well-positioned photograph of a lady that I sort of recognised provided much-needed reassurance.
Now 99.9 % certain that I was indeed in the right Embassy, I momentarily questioned my own reasonability, it's never failed me yet, thinking to myself it would be absolute travesty if such reasonability suddenly fail me at this crucial moment.
"British Embassy communicating with the British authorities, obviously beyond all reasonability, how bizarre is that? What on earth was I thinking of?
Suddenly it dawned on me that I've been standing in front of this wonderful lady, motionless wandering deep in thought for probably 30 to 40 seconds. Obviously somewhat concerned by the lower jaw accompanied by my now perplexed appearance, the vice Council, in an attempt to console me in the best way possible, breaking the news ever so gently, explained that with Nepal receiving over 450,000 UK tourists per year, that it was impossible for the very British Embassy to enter into the exercise of passing on so many messages.
"How many other people have Serengeti balloon safaris laid malicious complaints against?" Now, this was a revelation.
I have to say that at that point, I questioned how many of the 450,000 UK tourists had been subjected to a request from the UK police force to do so. An awkward, embarrassed silence followed, but not from my side.
Eventually there was nothing for it, I had to explain the whole history surrounding the case at hand, with accounts of my house been surrounded by masked men, previously threatened, subsequent deaths of passengers. This certainly grabbed her attention. If I was to say that she appeared intrigued, this may well be an understatement. With her eyes wide open, now it's her jaw that's slightly lowered, it was if she was so uninterruptedly, so deeply engrossed in an intriguing novel. Let’s make no mistake here here, nor for that matter appear flippant, with lives taken, lives ruined, livelihoods shamelessly destroyed, admitted corruption of officials, I should not need to remind all that this is no laughing matter. Now slightly more sympathetic to my pleadings, this transfixed vice council endeavoured to do whatever she could, which unfortunately through no fault of the own, didn’t amount to very much.
Embassy seal of authenticity
She offered to apply nothing less than an official stamp in my passport. Apparently this would signify that my passport was an original document, however the authenticity of my passport has never been in question. Desperate to find an answer, the poor woman went into what I imagine can only be best described as vice counsel autopilot, stating “ I can give you a list of local lawyers” thinking to myself that's all I need right now! I have found this is an often trotted outline when someone so much as sneezes in the British Embassy; however, from where I was standing, it appeared they only possessed one means of remedy for every conceivable ailment that just might come their way. Nevertheless, going in her favour, I acknowledge that my request just might have come out of the unusual box.
Referring to the official seal of authenticity left me dizzy with confusion, thinking to myself, despite the long arm of the British law, coupled with my best efforts of always going the extra mile, I failed to comprehend how on earth they would reach out this far to admire the official seal of approval, and even if they could, I questioned as whether this would in any way serve the purpose, will, of course, it wouldn’t. As you might imagine, for these reasons, I politely declined this most magnanimous gesture, thinking to myself, such a waste of ink.
All was not lost; desperately searching for something with substance, getting ever more creative, she then recommended that we exchange emails, clarifying that I’d attended the British Embassy, each outlining an account of what had taken place.
The theory behind that giant leap forward for all those holding a British passport was that such email could thereafter be passed on to the inquisitive yet unapproachable UK police authorities. Admirably some might say on my part, relying upon my somewhat tattered reserve, I managed to successfully obscured site of my immense frustration behind what was obviously the most convincing facade of cool and calm composure. I thought to myself that I shouldn’t be discourteous if found looking a gift horse in the mouth. I was happy to go along with this somewhat long-winded methodology, indeed it was the best on offer from this somewhat inflexible, certainly on many fronts under resourced establishment.
My only reasoning that I can offer at this stage surrounding such acceptance, at the very least, this would certainly add to the ever-mounting paper trail, at the same time, provide much-needed light-hearted amusement during subsequent court cases, hopefully bringing about the very moment in legal proceedings for the court to consider the possibility of short interlude, perhaps allowing the prosecution counsel much needed time to consider where exactly they are they’re going with this macabre game of charades.

For the attention of
British Embassy
Vice Counsel
Sonar
Dear Sonam
Thank you for your time this morning. Given the many complexities, that are bound to be confusing to anyone entering this protracted matter for the first time, I think that we got there eventually, for that I'm truly grateful.
I have many other documents I can send you that may help; however, given that your Embassy is about to close very shortly, I thought I'd quickly send this to you as per your advice. You will note that this document came from a friend of mine in the UK. You will also note that two police officers visited her on 4 June 2014. They had come looking for me. This morning we discussed many issues, for the purpose of this initial approach all that remains to be said that at this stage is that the UK police authorities are somewhat confused as to my identity and my whereabouts.
This morning, we discussed the fact that I'd sought clarification from the investigating officers (detective Catlin) prior to departing the UK. I also pointed out that I received correspondence from the UK police two days after my arrival on the Asian continent that ultimately transpired to be a summons to attend court. Keeping in mind that the Internet is spasmodic and very slow, it can take 10 minutes just to accept the most basic of emails.
Sometime later it transpired that this particular email contained an attachment (the summons) there were many reasons for not attending and these can be dealt with once in direct contact with the officers highlighted below. It appears at these offices are new this investigation. Given that I have approached the Home Office and the Ministry of Justice, the initial investigating officers detective Catlin along with Detective Wilson may or may not have been set aside from this investigation for the time being. For this reason, I feel it would be prudent to ensure the only contact is made with the offices mentioned below, i.e. Lindsay Francis along with Janine Cathcart.
You will note instructions to present myself to a British Embassy, the very reason for coming to see you this morning. Initially, you advised that you could certify my original passport by inserting some form of stamp; subsequently, after my repeated argument that this could not serve the purpose that is required in this instance. My need was to encourage your Embassy to verify that they have cited me, my passport thereafter pass on to the authorities that I am actually overseas and not as they have thought in the UK.
We discussed legal identity and the complexities involved in that scenario. It will not be forgotten that I mentioned that the UK police force had run checks with UK border agencies, who somehow, yet still mistakenly, assured the UK police force that I remain in the UK. It is all very confusing for all sides * xxxxxxxx xxxx xxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxxx xxxxxx by following normal protocols. xxxxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
* xxxxx for ongoing personal security reasons, contents have to be removed, yet will be available to the courts at the appropriate time.
Again, for the benefit of my quest to provide to all concerned complete transparency, without wanting to be in any way appear impertinent towards yourself, indeed the UK police force, I would strongly suggest that they once more contact the border agencies where they should be assured that I had indeed departed the UK in May 2013, furthermore have not returned since. The whole story behind all that can again be explained to these officers mentioned below once I have direct contact, the original investigation officers have always been provided details, nothing has been hidden from the UK police force.
It was noted during our conversation that owing to the fact that this area (country) attracts 450,000 British tourists each year, your Embassy was unable to relay messages back to the UK. Therefore you were not able to assist me. Placed on record is that I also spoke by internal telephone to second Sec Peter Allen. I accepted Peters explanation of his role in this area, where is he explained that the advice Council section would be the more appropriate area.
Fully appreciating the enormous burden placed upon yourself, largely owing to the complexities mentioned in this case, we parted on good terms with a far better understanding of what needs to be addressed.
Later you indicated that you could contact your counterpart in the UK in order to bring them up to date on the situation, that they may well be able to speak directly with these officers.
As you know the case that I brought before concerns distasteful events that include, myself been threatened by revolver, in your Embassies jurisdiction that took place in 2010. We also discuss the corruption of aviation officials (Tanzania) as well as local corruption where we stand today. For these reasons it is imperative that no record of this event, our conversation ever is made available to the local authorities, My life could well depend on that.
With this rather hurried email, determined to catch you before you go for your weekend break, I hope this satisfies your requirements and that you are able to make contact with the authorities in the UK. This is in order so that these authorities are sure that they are dealing with the appropriate person at this end, i.e. myself. Naturally given that I have offered to supply you with a photocopy of my passport, that you photocopied yourself, along with my UK driving licence, sets aside any uneasiness as to my identity along with my intentions.
Once again many thanks for your assistance
Yours sincerely
Nigel Pogmore

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your email.
I regret that I was unable to see your email on Friday, 6th June 2014.
You visited us on 6th June at approximately 10:15 am and mentioned that the British Embassy contact the UK Police and other authorities in the UK about your identity. You mentioned that xxxxxxxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxxx. I informed you that I cannot contact the UK authorities (including UKBA) on your behalf to inform all of them about your case/situation. I mentioned to you that I can provide you with a notarial service of verifying a copy of your passport (for identity purposes)- which you refused.
I advised that you contact the local authorities for assistance in regards to filing a police case, and you stated that you didn’t trust the authorities.
I have provided a link for information on the kind of support we offer for British Nationals in Nepal. Please see here
. I have also attached a lawyer's list if you wish to seek legal advice.
Please do contact us, if you require any consular assistance- as we are here to help you.

Whilst there is no doubt that this young lady was attempting to be as helpful as possible, it was most evident that her position failed to provide her with the necessary tools to do so. In true local custom, she was indeed very polite, as efficient as she could be given the existence insurmountable constraints, thus in this case detrimental protocols brought into play by the foreign office. Whilst I accept that the British Embassy certainly can’t be expected to act as a messenger service for each and every traveller that needs to check whether they had turned the iron off prior to their UK departure, I strongly suspect that there just might be circumstances, whereby the Embassy, be it with careful deliberation, at the same time digging ever so deep so as to conjure up the required level of common sense may possibly find themselves to be more practical. I feel that a blind man could see where I was coming from in that the British police had requested that I present myself to the British Embassy.
Given that there is a non-bailable warrant remains in existence for my arrest, therefore presumably I am viewed by by the straining eyes of UK police authority/the Crown Prosecution Service as a potential/criminal, I feel that if I was to bring into play an hypothetical situation may help shine some light on this. Could it be that a rapist or murderer, having committed such a dastardly deed back on UK soil, then with renewed vows of self-righteousness, could walk into a British Embassy, request to be given the opportunity to communicate with a British police officer, even do the right thing by surrendering himself, might be shown the door, saying that it’s beyond the Embassies remit to get involved?
Of course other scenario that demands the most serious consideration, is that he could very well have been the the last in line of the 450,000 waiting to send such a message, not wanting to be too harsh, one must must remain appropriately sympathetic to the overworked drastically ill-equipped office.
Later with it coming to my attention that the foreign office were actively seeking feedback of my experience when dealing the British Embassy, I couldn’t resist such an timely invitation, after all it could not be argued that I felt I had something of considerable substance to contribute. Certainly as a conscientious British citizen, looking for everything great in Great Britain, I thought I’d do my bit in hope of improving the service that foreign office might consider providing, however this is not selfishly about myself, more importantly about the demands of the British police force.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your email of 27 July, which has been passed to me for reply in my capacity as Desk Officer for consular issues in Kathmandu.
I was sorry to hear about the difficulties that you have faced with the UK police in trying to prove your identity; I appreciate how anxious you must be to clear up this matter.
I am aware that you paid a visit to the British Embassy in Kathmandu on 6 June and brought this situation to the attention of consular staff there and that you were informed that neither the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) nor the British Embassy can contact the UK authorities on your behalf, as this is not within our remit. Furthermore, we are unable to intervene in this case in terms of providing legal advice or assistance, or seeking to interfere. We offer consular assistance to our nationals overseas in line with our policy which you can find more details about in the enclosed guide ‘Support for British nationals’. - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/support-for-british-nationals-abroad-a-guide
I am sorry, I know that this response is not the answer that you have been looking for. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further assistance.
Kind Regards
Kerry Morris
Consular Directorate
Similar to the previously mentioned Vice Counsel, I can’t help but detect a level of sympathetic frustrations felt by Kerry Morris Cousular Directorate. This has left me wondering if everybody within the foreign office arrives for duty with their hands tied firmly behind their back, with the prerequisite of ridding themselves of what surely must be common sense before commencing their daily duty.
Obviously my somewhat intrepid expedition to the British Embassy was a complete and utter waste of time, however I wholeheartedly felt sympathy towards the poor police officers that had spent the tax payers money traveling between Bristol and York, not to mention omitting copious amounts of greenhouse gases on what was obviously a wasted trip. I felt that I really must do something to somehow work towards making their endeavours at least resemble something worthwhile.
Not wanting to waste any more time, on 7 July, after numerous attempts, it took 10 phone calls to eventually speak to the rather elusive Detective Cathcart. Prior to speaking to her, I had spoken to numerous individuals who came across as police officers. indicating this was the initial recording, “thank you for contacting Avon and Somerset police,” etc.
Are the policeforce enquiries handled by civilian call centres?
Eventually suspecting that I was talking to a call centre and not the police force, I pose the question, "is this a police station or is it a civilian call centre" you’d be shocked the answer, but that’s another day. Phoning the UK police force from overseas is very difficult, with a national number of 101 not being an option for overseas callers. Having said that, after careful research I acquired real telephone number Avon and Somerset police (well so I thought at the time) One individual in his effort to help, put me on hold while he attempted to contact detectives Cathcart. A few minutes later coming back online apologising for this delay, he informs me that I was spoken to the officer that Cathcart had stated that she had sent me an email sometime earlier. This was certainly a surprise to me as nothing has come my way from Cathcart or Francis. I have since requested the date and as to what email address they used in this claimed attempt at communicating with me. So far, nothing, but then again, no surprise there.
Hello is that the police ?
Eventually, after spending over an hour and a half making phone calls (not easy calling from Nepal during the monsoon season as the line keeps dropping out) I did manage to speak to Officer Cathcart, who sounded most abrupt, perhaps going as far to sounding decidedly antagonistic, stating that there was a warrant out for me, she elaborated that if I was who I claimed to be, that as an investigating officer, she was not prepared to talk to me any more, CLICK.
Given the circumstances, along with my best efforts and certainly my most obvious transparency, I can’t help but think that this all seemed rather strange. Many may appreciate the question, why are Avon and Somerset police spending vast amounts Man-hours, pursuing me, however when I front up, they become very shy.
Given that no blackmail has ever taken place, this is all driven by maliciousness, certainly on the part of Tony Pascoe Serengeti Balloon Safaris. Yet, given what I've experienced so far, possibly on the part of Avon and Somerset police, they haven’t got a case.
Obviously, if this case ever goes to court—and let me alay all doubts here and now—I sincerely hope that it does—it would have to be at a level no less than the Crown Court. I shall be exercising my right, therefore insisting on trial by jury. Whilst I’m not too sure of normal protocols surrounding the commencement of such a trial, I seem to understand that the initial outline shall be heard before a judge without a jury.
At that point, the heavily burdened judge would have to determine whether or not the case possesses enough merit to proceed to a full-blown trial. For that reason, I feel that it is highly probable that the case will be thrown out at this point. The whole basis that the case is supposedly built upon is totally farcical. Would I jump for joy once thrown out, I hear you ask? Most certainly not; quite the contrary.
I say that for the simple reason that while going to any court as a defendant is not the most ideal situation, let's cast aside all doubts. That’s where any hesitation about appearing before a judge and jury instantly evaporates.
With all that has taken place, the distinct hardships that myself & my wife have had to endure over the last 5 1/2 years, we have each been put through hell on earth, not least. Since my rather abrupt departure from SBS, have experienced two subsequent accidents resulting in injury and deaths of the complainant’s passengers.
I genuinely feel that if unchallengeable justice is to be achieved, this case is unquestionably far removed from a simple case of whether or not blackmail ever took place (and it did not). To put this case in full perspective, the complainant commits many wrongs; these ultimately require full exposure. I feel that in order to firmly demonstrate the reasonability of my warranted actions, at the same time highlighting the deceptions and inappropriate actions of other parties, the entire background of events that have taken place since I first teamed up with Tony Pascoe & Colin Mackinnon directors Serengeti Balloon Safaris Ltd in 2007 to the present time. All need to be brought to the forefront of a judge & jury. I believe that not to do so would ultimately find this entire case sitting firmly & squarely under the title of miscarriage of justice.
Whilst in no way legally trained or professionally advised at this stage, for reasons of complexities, volume of recorded events, we are looking at two - three-week trial, quite possibly longer. Without any intention of send the wrong message, not least to be in anyway disparaging, I would imagine this case will be most intriguing, one that will turn the spotlight not only on the deceptively reckless perpetrator at SBS, yet also the industry itself, highlighting the plight of whistleblowers at the same time.
Edit March 2024: I think you may agree I went the extra mile, I wasn't running away from anything.
